A public mixtape exchange

I’ve been making mixtapes for myself and friends since I learned how to rip songs from the radio onto cassette tapes. In fact, making mixes is how I first got into graphic design: coupling my favorite new music with custom mixtape art.

The tradition continued through CDs, MiniDiscs (yes, that MiniDisc), flash drives, iTunes playlists, and currently, Family Knux: an online catalog of the mixes I’ve exchanged with my friend Andy.

We had been exchanging mixes for a few months already, but only gave ourselves a deadline of 24 hours to complete the project.

Why? Sometimes momentum is all you need to ensure the projects you start are also the ones you finish.

I drank a lot of coffee. We made decisions quickly.
